Blog #4: Visit to the Museum of Moving Image

Ashley Roth 11/22/17 During the trip to the Museum of Moving Image, there were many interactive exhibits I participated in. One of those exhibits was an exhibit where I used Automated Dialogue Replacement over a films dialogue. I said the words that the screen was displaying and it recorded my voice over the actors voice. I learned that the dialogue that is recorded while filming might need to be recorded over again due to complications such as unwanted noise or an actor messing up their lines. I learned that this process happens in a studio after filming. Another interactive exhibit I participated in was spinning the Thaumatrope and Zoetrope. It was interesting to spin the devices that I learned about in lecture. It was interesting to hear that the Thaumatrope was invented in 1825 by John Ayrton Paris. Changes in moving image technology changed the way people view movies and motion. I was able to see a visual representation of this by spinning these old fashioned ways of viewing...

Blog #3: Relationships Between Shots in Psycho

In Alfred Hitchcock's black and white horror film Psycho, there are several camera shots that have a relationship to one another. This scene uses continuity editing throughout its entirety. Diegetic sound is used when the shower water is running since both the audience and Marion can hear it. A graphic match is used to show Marion showering and then shows a shadow of another person facing the same direction behind the shower curtain. An extreme close up is used to show Marion yelling as she sees the man holding the knife. That shows the point of view from the killer. However, the camera shows the point of view of both Marion and the killer. For example, we see the killer facing the camera and stabbing her but we also see Marion yelling in fear which the killer sees. When the camera shows the killer from Marion's perspective, he still appears to look like a shadow where the audience is unable to see his face even though the killer sees Marion clearly and with light on her. That ...

Sound in Central Park- Blog post #2

While walking in Central park during the day on Saturday, Horses hooves clamped against the hard cement floor as leaves rustled in the wind. I heard the strong pounding of the wind as it hit the trees. I heard a young woman talking on her cellphone about her weekend plans and heard the sounds of a young child crying and screaming about going to the doctor the following week. Dog tags jingled as they pranced alongside their jogging owners. I heard car horns beeping in the distance. I heard a woman’s phone ring as she was trying to find where her phone was located in her purse. I could hear her keys jingle as she tried to find her ringing phone. When I sat down on a bench in the park, I heard a man munching on his crispy tacos and slurping a coca cola. As the old lady who sat next to me threw nuts to the squirrels, I heard the animals cracking open the nut with their sharp teeth. There was a munching sound each time that they bit into the walnut. A tourist asked me to take a photo of he...

I used my phones camera to capture short videos and photos of my dog, Lilly. I am excited to learn various techniques to edit my footage in order to create interesting videos. I am interested in showing humorous, creative and interesting video edits of Lilly after the duration of this class. I would also like to create several videos capturing the ambiance of my community, current events, and the lifes...
