I am a general media studies major who is interested in social media marketing. Upon graduation, I would like to become a social media marketing manager for a large TV media corporation. As a summer intern at The Shark Group, I gained experience working on business Instagram accounts and compiled YouTube clips that were needed to make a video compilation of Daymond John's entrepreneurship advice. As I was interning here, I created an Instagram account for my dog that has gained over 10,000 followers in less than two months. I used my phones camera to capture short videos and photos of my dog, Lilly. I am excited to learn various techniques to edit my footage in order to create interesting videos. I am interested in showing humorous, creative and interesting video edits of Lilly after the duration of this class. I would also like to create several videos capturing the ambiance of my community, current events, and the lifestyle of a college student. I would like to become proficient in various video editing techniques that will allow me to connect with my audience.
When I was younger, my uncle worked for Robert De Niro in the projection room. He told me stories about the process of filmmaking. I found this fascinating so I did research on filmmaking and created short movies with my friends in middle school. My Godmother was a photographer for the New York Times and encouraged me to be creative throughout my life. Therefore, I would like to project my artistic abilities through the creation of short videos.
In high school, I was enrolled in a video editing workshop where I collaborated with my peers to create a short video, edit it and present it on iMovie. I am eager to learn all about Premier and other video/ audio editing software. I have some knowledge of various camera movements and shots. I am inspired by famous filmmakers like Alfred Hitchcock and Steven Spielberg, in order to create videos that will capture the attention and interest of many people. Editing videos is a complicated process which I would like to learn more about.
I would like to shoot some of my videos in a nature setting like Central Park or on a city sidewalk. There are so many different sounds and happenings in both of these areas that can be captured in a single video. For the class projects, I am interested in creating quality content through film that my audience can relate to. I would like my videos to allow the audience to feel as if they are shooting the movie with me. I hope my videos will encourage people to express their viewpoints through the digital form of videos.
